ANZAC Day

ANZAC Australia and New Zealand Army Corps

April 25 is ANZAC Day here and in New Zealand. It is a legal Holiday and everyone is off work and school. ANZAC is the Australia and New Zealands day to honor those who have served in the Wars. It is a big thing here. Everyone is so proud of those who have served their country.

Near dawn on 25th of April 1915, forces of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps landed with the British and Franch Forces on the Gallipoli Penninsula. The objective of the operation was to force the Dardenelles by land, capture the Turkish capital of Constantinople (now Instanbul) and relieve German and Turkish pressure on the Russians.

None of these objectives were achieved. By Christmas 1915, not a single living allied soldier remained at Gallipoli, like that from Dunkirk in World Was II, was a brilliant success, but there can be no denying that Gallipoli and Dunkirk were major military disasters.

The Countries however, recognise the courage and fortitude of those at Gallipoli. The failure of the operation lay with the planners, not with the troops assigned to an impossible task. The withdrawal was in a good order, in a maneuver still regarded as one of the most skillfully conducted withdrawals in adverse condition ever attempted.

Gallipoli was the first major campaign in which Australian troops fought as a body under their own commanders and carried the bulk of the operation on their own shoulders.

It can be said that Australia came of age as a nation at Gallipoli. Those who went were all volunteers and believed it was the right thing to do.

Approximately three in every 40 people living in Australia went to war. Three in every 200 people living in Australia died as a result of war. Australia lost 1.5 per cent of its population.

That is a little bit about Australia.

We went to the parade and loved it. I was so mad as I left my camera at home.

As one man standing next to me said at the end of the parade "Now it is off to the Club and Pub".

Odds and Ends

This is one of the many Post Boxes all over Australia.
You have to put the out going mail in one of these.
They will not take it at the Post Office.
You can not put your out going mail in your own post box to be picked up either. This is what the Australians do with old tyres.
They are cut in half, put over the pipes coming up and going down into the ground.
Very good use of tyres that would end up in the Tip.

Brother Barratt and some of his flowers he brings every Sunday.
He brings three bouquets each week for the chapelSisters Liu and Hepworth
they serve in Armidale an hour and a half from us.
We love them.
We have lots of these trees in Tamworth.
I love the shapes of the branches.

My Tomato plants
The little green things in the pot are spring onions.
They have not done a thing, so far.

Odds and Ends

Some tomatoes from my plants, out in front of our flat.
There are lots more turning red as I write.
They are tasty and meaty. We have lots of these Parrots walking and flying around every where.
They are beautiful and very noisy.

The dam is up to the left behind us. The water is not even close.
Goats are grazing down there where the water is suppose to be.

Drive to Inverell

Tuesday morning we packed up and left for our adventure up north. We are on a trip to find members, doing this for the Branch President of Armidale.
We stopped in Armidale and took the Sisters out to lunch. They were so happy to see us.
We were happy to visit with them and they loved us buying the lunch.
Hungry Jack has good food for fast food or as is said here Take Out.
Dee had looked up the name Doney in the phone book and found some in Glen Innes.
So we went and visited them.
They were so happy to see us and invited us back anytime we were up there.
They have 3 young children.
They had just spent 4 days at an Easter Fest. They were infused with the Love of Christ.
Amber has been attending another church from her own faith because she wants to talk Religion after church not cattle and such stuff.
We gave them The Lamb of God and Families Can Be Together Forever DVD's.
We are planning on going back and sharing the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
That was such a fun experience.
I have to tell you about my experience going out to the car to get the DVD's.
It was pouring rain. I opened the boot of the car grabbed the umbrella opened it and walla
it turned inside out in the wind. This was a big umbrella. There I stand in the rain and wind getting soaked trying to get the darn thing back right. I finally did, grabbed the DVD's and ran soaked back to the house. I kept thinking while I was out there that the neighbors must have had a great laugh watching me with that umbrella.
We then drove on to Inverell in the rain. We seem to make trips in the rain a lot.
The clouds are unbelievability BEAUTIFUL out here. Piled high, whipped, stacked, puffed up, as you look forever. This is not called the Big Sky Country for nothing.
We had dinner at the East Inverell Bowling Club.
There was not much else to choose from.
Just Take out.
It is very interesting to eat at the Bowling Clubs. Every town has them.
It is a social club for the towns people.
A bar, Keno, games, dinning room, etc.
You go up to the counter order your food and if it is already prepared they serve it up right there which is a lot of battered fried things. They also fry stakes, sausages and lamb.
You get veggies with it. All for $13.00 each. Dessert is extra $4.00 each.
None of which is all that good. I prefer Take Out.
I went to Curves this morning and now will take a bath in a HALF spa bath tub.
This will be an experience, I'll let you know how it goes. It should be better then no bath!

Shopping in Downtown Sydney

Here are two clocks that are hanging in a Mall.

There are moving parts going all the time and more on the hour.
Really beautiful! I loved these clocks. I love most clocks anyway.
So of course I would these.

They have wonderful old ornate malls.
You can find almost anything.
They are several stories high and go long distances.
These are narrow like so many of the old ones.

This is an old goverment building that was converted into a Mall.
"The Queen Victoria"
Most of the shops were very expensive but very nice.

"The Strang"
This is the outside of the mall, that is pictured above that says

but is tired all the time. It is hard for her to drive an hour on Sunday to Tamworth for church.
