Odds and Ends

For the Norco Folks. This is half of a full rainbow we had a week ago.
The other half to come.

The other half.
It was huge and all the colors.
The pictures do not do it justice.

A gentleman we met in Manilla painted these on the trees.
He took what the tree had made and painted it.
These are along the road to Manilla.

Find the Dog face, it is not painted yet.

Narrabri Branch

Last Sunday we went out and visited with the Narrabri BranchThis is the Boaden Family, Kristen Allen and the Conrys and Sister Doney.
Get a load of the boots, at least they keep my feet warm.
Narrabri Sisters cleaning up after lunch.
Kristen A, Nicole B. and Colleen C.

The all of the Branch that are active.
The Branch Pres. Allen and the Hoffmanns are in this picture.
The other picture the Branch Pres. was having Tithing Settlement with the Hoffmanns.
Yes! Tithing Settlement at this time of year. It is the fiscal year end here.

More Signs

They have some pretty gross Stop Smoking Signs
You would think it would make people stop and think about Smoking. This means they are working on the road.
This type of sign is all over the country.

We loved this sign.

Dee tried to use this gas station last Saturday and guess what?
It would not accept our card.
We were in Bingara and everything closes up at Noon or before.
It is hard to get anything to eat or gas for that matter.

More Signs

Post Signs are where ever you can purchase your stamps, mailing things and weight.
You can not mail your mail inside,
you have to go out side and put it in the box. You have to really watch for this sign and obey as you are fined big time.
We love the view from up there.

You don't see any of these anywhere else in the World!

This is typical of the street signs.
They let you know what is on that street and what direction.

More Later.

Signs

These are some of the signs we see along the roadsAustralians are pretty open about sex.

Tamworth has been named " Tidy Town" of the Year several times.
Tamworth won again this year.

This always amuses us as you are usually out in the middle
of the low spot and you see the measureing stick by then it is too late.
These indicators are all over NSW.

We parked here because we were not going to stand here!

More to come!

CSIRO PARKS RADIO TELESCOPE

In our travels last week we went to Parks, NSW
Because of this telescope the world was able to watch the
Landing and Walk on the Moon
July 1969
(I was very pregnant with Amy Girl)
The Northern Hemisphere could not see the Moon
when he decided to walk so it was turned over to Australia to televise it.
I am sure most of the world did not know this,
I sure did not. We saw this movie the night before at the Cases.
It made us want to go see for our self
THE DISH

This Dish is quite Awesome,
you can play baseball in it or Cricket,
they did in the movie.

We watched it turn slowly,
it can turn up flat and 360 degrees around

The Dish is out in the middle of a Sheep pasture.
Of course it was raining the day we were there,
hence the foggy picture.

Gilgandra, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst

We were traveling last week.
We went to visit a Missionary couple the Cases, who are leaving in July.
We wanted to check out the area to see if we wanted to move down there at our 9 mo. mark.
First we drove to Gilgandra where the Branch Pres. Chris Ryan of Dubbo Branch, lives.
They own a Motel, the Elders were there for Preparation Day,
so we stayed at the Motel.
It was fun to spent time with the Elders and the Ryan family.
Two cute boys and a 3 mo. old baby girl.
You know I held her as much as I could to make up a little bit for not being able to hold Ember.
Also a lovely wife and Mum.
The Pres. Ryan is the only Priesthood holder in his Branch.
Pres. Ryan has only been active for the last 3 years.
We then drove to Dubbo on Tuesday morning so I could go to Curves and then have breakfast.
Of course it had started raining Monday night.
It seems to rain every time we travel.
Then rained almost the whole time we were gone.
We drove to Orange where the Cases live.
The drive is very lovely, country, country, country. Rolling hills, trees, farms, ranches, animals I love it!
Orange is a pretty town but very cold in the winter and damp. Things smell musty. The nice part is it does not get hot in the summer.
We talked lots with the Cases and shared ideas of what to do, played games, ate, etc.
We stayed with the Cases, they have a nice little flat.
Wednesday we drove back up to Dubbo (in the rain) to visit different sites.
We went to a business where they make boomerangs, etc. It turned out the they had closed, but the lady showed us what they had left. We bought several things. As we were about to leave she asked if we were Missionaries. It was a dark room, we all had our badges on but she did not see them. We all said yes she then said she was a member of the church. We had a fun visit with her and got everything for a really good price.
We went to the Ugg factory, I ordered some boots I can wear to church here and at home so my feet don't freeze. I can get warm everywhere else but my feet.
We also stopped at a Aboriginal monument. It was made out of old bridge girders, rocks, etc. (I will put a picture of it on the blog later)
Thursday we went down to Bathhurst and visited the Branch Pres. Rier who runs the Aboriginal Arts section of the prison. We visited him at the prison to see the art work they were doing. (picture of the prison gate to be posted later)
Sister Case and I, of course had to check out the Op-shops, (as they are called here) second hand stores. We then left for Wellington, had lunch at McDonald's (that gets old after a while but you know what you are getting).
Dee called a Doney he had an appointment with to share Genealogy. She would be driving a bus at the time we would get there and it would be to late for us to wait and drive home after meeting. She will be coming to Tamworth in July to meet her Son and Grandchildren who are coming down from Glenn Innes. We will all get together then.
We then drove to Parks. I will do another post about that later, very interesting.
We drove home in the rain and dark.
It takes about 6 or 7 hrs to drive to Orange.
We had a very good time.

Presents

We finally broke down and bought our selves an anniversary present.
This is so exciting!
Flannel sheets and a mattress cover.
We were using an old blanket for a mattress cover.
Things are so expensive here you don't want to go out,
buy things you are not going to bring home.
We decided snuggling down in fuzzy sheets when it is so cold was a good buy.
Well you do what you can to stay warm!
