Here in Australia water is very precious and saved all the time.
One way is to have water run off your roof in to water tanks.
You then use it to drink, etc.
I don't know about you but the vision of drinking water that has run off a roof that is rusty, has had birds, dust, etc. on it is more than I can stomach.
We had a good member give us 2 big bottles of it when we were out in Moree.
We didn't want it so we left it at the motel.
Two weeks later he called and wanted the empty bottles returned when we got back their way.
We had to scramble to find bottles like the ones he gave us.
We turned down any more wonderful gifts like that again.
